Cycle Against Suicide

This year St. Anne’s had the privilege to be an Anchor School for the Cycle Against Suicide Campaign, which proved to be a very positive experience for the whole school community.  The campaign in St. Anne’s was led by Ms. Síobhán Ryan and her Steering Committee, Angela Heffernan, Aisling Ryan, Fiona Noonan, Aoife Ryan, Dearbhla Donovan, Maeve Richardson, Niamh Richardson, Caoimhe Comerford, Caitlin Byrnes, Muireann Slattery and Mikayla Curran Leahy.

We welcomed almost 400 visiting cyclists to the school and had a very uplifting and positive morning with speakers and entertainers, all highlighting the fact that ‘it’s ok not to be ok and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help’.  Another key message of the campaign is ‘shoulder to shoulder we can break the cycle of suicide’.  Guest speakers included Jim Breen, founder CAS, Colm Hayes, 2FM and Alan Quinlan, local rugby star.  The crowd was also entertained by the Combined School Choir of St. Anne’s and The Abbey, and by the singing of Caoimhe Carey and Hannah-Kate Heffernan.

Well done to all who participated and especially to the 38 staff and students from St. Anne’s who cycled the 38 km from Tipperary to Clonmel.
