A number of Ecology trips took place in May with the 6th and 2nd years travelling to Cabragh Wetlands to study the North Tipperary ecosystem. 5th years travelled to Fota Wildlife Park studying the woodland ecosystem there while the 3rd years travelled to Lismore Castle combining ecology trip with a history outing.

Paisti 1916
Caoimhe Carey and Ellie O’Donoghue, who composed a song about 1916 for the Scór 1916 Song Competition. Their song, Páistí 1916, was performed in St. Anne’s during the 1916 Commemorations. Caoimhe and Ellie, along with co-performers Jane Greene, Elena O’Connor, Rachel Ryan, Bronagh O’Connor, Hannah Kinane and Hannah-Kate Heffernan were invited to Croke Park for the announcement of the winners. Their song has been published, by Scór, in a book entitled Amhrán Ag Comóradh 1916. Well done to all involved.

Scifest Regional Winners
Katie Kinane and Ali Ryan in second year had great success recently at Scifest in LIT Thurles. They won the Science Foundation of Ireland Best Project Award for their project ‘Mechanics of Pencil Holding in Early Childhood Care and Education children. They investigated how children in pre-schools in Tipperary Town and surrounding areas hold their pencil and whether with intervention pencil holding technique could be improved. The project was originally entered in the BT Young Scientist Competition in January, where they were highly recommended for their work. Ali and Katie will now go on to compete at a national final in November 2016 in Dublin.

School Dog
Meet Lady the School Dog, who will be enrolling in St. Anne’s in September 2016. Lady is a Cavachon (mixture of a King Charles and a Bichon Frise) who will be trained to help our students deal with the daily stresses of life. She will B&B with Ms Dowling every night and spend her days in St. Anne’s, putting a smile on everyone’s face!
